The Full Story

About Me

My name is Laura. I grew up in a small city in Central Illinois where I was the youngest of five kids. I've experienced a great deal of adversity in life, including complex trauma and being diagnosed with major depressive disorder and generalized anxiety disorder. My adolescence was tough, as I was a sensitive kid and never really felt like I quite fit in anywhere. My struggles continued into adulthood when I met and ultimately married a man who turned out to be a narcissist. I endured intense verbal abuse and at times even physical abuse and threats. I finally got out of that relationship when I met my twin flame. His name is Steve, and he saved my life.

Unfortunately, I brought a lot of baggage into that relationship including unresolved trauma and mental illness. I knew I had to do something, so I started going to counseling. This changed my life for the better, but I still was not quite able to overcome my severe depression. I had also lost faith in the idea that there was a higher power, as I was convinced I was born into a meaningless life where I would suffer forever. While doing a Google search I stumbled upon advertisements for Ketamine therapy near me. I did some research and read some reviews and found out the life-changing benefits of treatment. I made an appointment with a clinician who cleared me for therapy. I went a total of six times and it changed my perspective forever. During my treatments, I grew certain there is a higher power among us, and amazingly, any thoughts I had of suicide and bouts of major depression drifted away. For the first time in my life, I was finally happy!

I had long been unhappy with my career in information technology. Like many others in early adulthood, I sought out an education and career that would make me wealthy. By my early 30's, I was completely burned out. I was sick and tired of arbitrary deadlines, never-ending meetings, and being forced to do what would make my employers money rather than doing right by the customer. Before Ketamine therapy, I believed this would be my life until I retired. However, a couple of sessions in and I had a revelation...I was not put on this earth to serve corporate interests. I have a higher purpose, and that is to help others. About a month later I quit my job and signed up for classes to become a licensed counselor.

I am now in my senior year as an undergraduate at a major university. I plan to go to graduate school and continue pursuing a career in counseling. I'm very fortunate to have the love and support of my now husband Steve and family. The existential dread I once felt on a daily basis has ceased, and I finally feel as though I'm on a path to fulfill my mission in life.

I decided to start this blog for the sensitive and empaths, for those who never felt like they quite fit in, and for those who feel like they're drowning in their current mental state. I'm hoping that by sharing my story and what I've learned that I can somehow help others like me. For those who have lost faith in the universe, please don't give up yet. I'm hoping this blog reaches you well and you begin to see the light that exists within you.
